One of the UAE’s finest golf courses, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, has closed its back nine holes as the course undergoes a revamp which is set to enhance the playing experience.

The biggest change to the Gary Player-designed masterpiece is set to be the addition of another signature ocean-facing par 3 hole, which will add to the course’s reputation as one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world.

“The back-nine holes will be closed for some time,” said a spokesperson for the club.

“In the meantime, the back-nine has some planned adjustments in routing – under the supervision of both the original designer and golf legend Gary Player in association with Nicklaus Design.

“Included in the re-design is another ocean-fronted par 3 hole.”

The Clubhouse. Driving Range, Golf Academy, and all additional club facilities will remain fully operational during the work.

“The golf course will continue to operate with the front nine being played as either just nine holes or a repeat of the front nine as 18 holes,” the spokesperson added.

As well as being a favourite among amateur golfers in the UAE, the course has also hosted numerous professional tournaments, including the Ladies European Tour’s Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open and the Challenge Tour’s UAE Challenge, which was held for the second time in April.

The latter of those tournaments made headlines worldwide after Dubai-based amateur Oscar Craig made the cut on his Challenge Tour debut, with stepdad and two-time Ryde Cup winner Tommy Fleetwood acting as his looper.

All the work is expected to be completed and the back nine will re-open to complete the 18 holes in mid-2025.
