Annual event sees healthy competition with 96 golfers in fray

Dubai: Ross Oates, a member of Arabian Ranches, won the 28th Dubai Duty Free Golf Cup held last Saturday with 96 players in the fray.
The event, hosted by Dubai Duty Free, was played in Individual stableford format with prizes being awarded to Junior, Senior, Men’s, Ladies and Gross divisions at the Arabian Ranches. In warm and breezy conditions, some very impressive scores were returned by the golfers but the coveted title went to Oates who scored 44 points.
With the champion golfer crowned, the top three prizes were also awarded in the Men’s division, with Frederic Fleury taking the victory with 40 points, followed by Andrew Partridge with 39 points in the second place and Bruno Pereira with 38 points in the third. The Best Gross of the day was won by Ross Grant with a great score of 69 Gross points.
Commenting on the tournament, Dubai Duty Free’s Executive Vice Chairman & CEO, Colm McLoughlin said: ‘‘This is the 28th year that we have been running this golfing event and we are delighted with the turnout. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to Arabian Ranches for staging the tournament.”
Ten lady golfers competed in the Ladies division with prizes being awarded to the top three: Janine Dodson took the victory with 39 points while Isabelle Jeanselme and Suzanne Jackson won by a countback of 37 points, respectively, to take the second and third spot. The Senior’s division was won by Nick Borkhataria with 39 points, while Anna Iatsuliak won the Junior division with 40 points out of five juniors who participated in this division.
The on-course prizes were won by Christopher Benson for the Men’s & Junior Longest Drive while Isabelle Jeanselme won the Ladies & Junior Longest Drive. Winning the Men’s & Junior Closest to the Pin was Anand Rajagopal while Suzanne Jackson won the Ladies & Junior Closest to the Pin.
