Gulf News caught up with Dubai-based Adrian Otaegui of Spain after he signed for a second round 63, a new course record at Al Hamra Golf Club in the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.
Tell us about your Dubai history?
I have been living in Dubai now for ten years since I turned professional. It was not that easy at first as I did not know many people. The more time I am here in Dubai the more I love it, now I know so many people and I now know where to go. The weather is perfect during the winter season for practice, play etc. There are always so many things to do in Dubai. Dubai is the perfect place to base myself for my life as a Touring Professional with such great routes to travel around the world.
Where do you practise your golf in Dubai?
I am looked after at all the golf clubs in Dubai, but my favourite facility is perhaps Jumeirah Golf Estates. Not just for the great practice facilities, but also the gym facilities which are now, so important for the golf professional. A special thanks to Chris May, Ismail Sharif and Stephen Deane for their support.
Recently, I have practised more at Emirates Golf Club in preparation for last week’s Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic and thank you to all at EGC for accommodating me when and where they could.
What are your plans over the next few weeks?
I will be staying in Dubai for a couple of months, depending on the tournament schedule and my own plans for tournaments.
