Jumeirah Golf Estates hosted its April edition of the Jumeirah Pairs by The Lounge Spa.
There was a strong field of 45 pairs playing in the afternoon shotgun.
The Fire course was in excellent shape, however, the same couldn’t be said for the overcast and blustery conditions. This didn’t show on the leaderboard, with an impressively high scoring day – the highest score from any pair in the field was an even par net 72.
The format for the Jumeirah Pairs by the Lounge Spa was a Pairs Shamble. A Pairs Shambles is where each player tees off with their own ball, and the best tee shot is selected. The partner whose drive wasn’t selected picks up and plays one club length from the best drive. From this point, the two play their individual ball until the hole is finished, with the best net score being recorded on Golf Genius.
Ladies were playing from the Orange tee markers, with gents teeing up on the composites. Pairs gained an 85 percent course handicap allowance. The winning pair was the 2023 Club Championship runner-up, Raghav Malik (+1.2) and this month’s Tommy Fleetwood Academy Net Division Winner, Ayaan Khanna (25.1).
To claim victory, the pair scored a magnificent 57 net (15 under par). The pair dovetailed extremely well, with Khanna’s short game and putting being a huge factor in their success today.
A close second was David Warham (8.1) and Richard Green (5.9), with an admirable score of 59 net (13 under par). Warham and Green had a run of form on both nines; they secured a run of net birdie, eagle, birdie. They followed this up with the same form on holes 12, 13 and 14 of the back nine.
In third place with a score of 60 net (12 under par) were the team of Anca Pirvu (15) and Anca Mateiu (Scr). The pair were incredibly strong, scoring a 27 net (9 under par) and three net eagles coming from the front nine alone.
