Dubai: James Nash (Wales) shot a five under par second round of 67 to lead on seven under par in the 2023 Montgomerie Golf Club Dubai Men’s Open today (Saturday).

Nash, co-leader after round one with a 70, produced a five birdie – no bogey round to build a five shot lead with 18 holes to play.

23 year-old Nash said on completing his round, ‘I drove the ball well, my game was all round solid especially my wedge play. My wedge to a foot on the 10th was one of my round highlights.’

Nash learnt to play golf at the Montgomerie Golf Club before moving to England in 2016 and was a Junior Member at the club for three years.

Nash is spending four months in Dubai for winter golf training and won the recent Dubai Creek Men’s Open.

In second place is 19 year-old Sam Mullane (JGE), leader of the 2022 – 2023 EGF Order of Merit, who shot a second round 70 to go along with his opening level par 72.

Beating par

13 year-old Louis Klein (Czech Republic) is tied third on 145 after beating par with a second round 71.

Leading Montgomerie Golf Club member in the Gross Division is 16 year-old Rayan Ahmed with rounds of 76 and 73 to be in tied 10th.

In the Net Division Gary Martin (Montgomerie Golf Club) leads off his 6 handicap and 10 shot slope rating allowance with rounds of 64 and 72 for a 136 two round net total.

This 54 hole individual strokeplay tournament is the ninth event on the Emirates Golf Federation’s (EGF) 2022 – 2023 Men’s Order of Merit as well as an approved World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event supported by the R&A.

The final round will be held tomorrow (Sunday) with the leaders out last at 8.39 am with Nash, Mullane and Klein in the final threeball.
