Jumeirah Golf Estates recently marked the final official event in the Ladies' section calendar before the summer break.

The event was a special one, The Lady Captain's Team VS Vice Lady Captain's Team Trophy. It was the inaugural event held on the Earth course. Following aeration work, the course is beginning to show significant signs of growth and repair.

28 ladies took part in the afternoon with the format being a pair Texas scramble in the form of a match play.

Each player tees off: The best tee shot from the flight is selected; all players will then play their ball from within one club length of the chosen ball. A minimum of 6 tee shots per person was required. Play was from the same ground condition as the selected ball (rough/fairway/bunker).

The Ryder Cup team element was determined as one team point for a match play win and a half point for a tie. As a twist, teams played for a half point if holes remained. If the remaining holes were drawn, then there was no extra half-point. Groups were allocated a combined course handicap (35% lowest and 15% highest).

Result

The winner of the inaugural Lady Captain's Team VS Vice Lady Captain's Team Trophy was the Lady Captain's Team. They scored 4 ½ to the Vice Captain's Team's 4 points.

Evelyn Downham kindly donated this perpetual trophy to the ladies' section at Jumeirah Golf Estates and successfully claimed it in the first year. The half points were a defining factor in the result.

The Lady Captain Downham also contributed three prizes for special on-course events. A Nearest the Pin on hole 6 was won by Willemijn Roeterdink, who was playing in the final group. Roeterdink received a voucher for The Lounge Spa.

As no one managed to Beat Adam Stastny (the pro) on hole 13, the prizes went to a draw. Anna-Retha Rafferty (Lady – Vice Captain) and Lisa Lynch were the lucky winners of a week's access to the Tommy Fleetwood Academy.

A special announcement and prize were awarded to the person with the most wins in the 2022/23 season. There were several contenders, but the winner, with four, was Jacqueline De Vries.

Whilst concluding the prize-giving presentation, Rory Stewart, Golf Services Executive, commented, "Congratulation's to the Lady Captain's team for their win in this inaugural event. This event marks the final official event before the summer break. Thank you for your attendance throughout the season, and we look forward to welcoming you back in September."
