Dubai: The Emirates NBD Race To Malaysia kicked off on Masters weekend as a large field of Montgomerie Golf Club members battled in a medal format to decide which five members will represent them at the National Final at Al Hamra Golf Club, Ras Al Khaimah on October 1. The season-long event is sanctioned by the Emirates Golf Federation.

The five handicap category winners will then represent the UAE in Malaysia in November in the World Finals November 12-19, 2022.

Russell Yeomans of Sport2Business, the organisers, said: ‘‘The Montgomerie Golf Club helped us put up a great event on a fabulous property. The greens were magnificent, ‘almost’ at Augusta speeds and the members battled away in hot conditions to produce some outstanding scores. The event sponsors helped put on a great day with superb prizes so special thanks to Emirates NBD, Thriwe, Athletic Drive, AARO, eGolfmegastore, AGMC BMW, Accuracy, Msangai Travel for their support.’’

Emirates NBD also invited their clients as part of their own qualification event over the 16 qualifiers with Vikas Tewani shooting an amazing 65 net to eclipse all players on the day that should assure him a spot at the National Final representing Emirates NBD.

This is the first of 15 qualifying events over the next few months. Stephen Payne, Golf Operations Manager, said: ‘‘Thanks to Sport2Business, Emirates NBD and the sponsors for what was a fabulous event for our members and indeed a great initiative for UAE golf – we are privileged to have been the first course to host this exciting series. I wish our members every success in the final and we hope to see at least one of them in Malaysia.’’

Most events are for club member sonly where golfers register through their clubs but EGF members are able to register for the JA Resort Jebel Ali, Al Hamra, Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club events.
