Dubai Hills Golf Club Scratch League Team beat Abu Dhabi Golf Club Scratch League Team on the third extra play-off hole in the second leg of the semi-final of this season’s UAE Scratch League Players’ Division.
The format of the UAE Scratch Golf League is fourball betterball scratch matchplay with eight players and four pairings a side.
Following last week’s tied 2-2 match at Dubai Hills it was a ‘winner takes all’ match which saw a repeat 2-2 halved match today.
To decide the tied match, the League rules stipulate a sudden-death play-off with both Captains nominating two players from their respective sides, forming the play-off pairings.
Iconic par five
Abu Dhabi Golf Club nominated Tom Nesbitt and Tom Mason, whilst Dubai Hills Golf Club nominated Gavin Sutherland and Gordon Munro.
After two laps of the iconic par five 18th hole of the National Course, it remained even, the first time halved in birdie fours and the second time halved in pars, and it was then left to Gavin Sutherland (DHGC) to birdie the 18th hole on the third playing of the hole, by sinking a 12 footer for the Team victory that the Abu Dhabi Golf Club pairing could not match.
Dubai Hills Golf Club now progress to the final of the Players’ Division where they will play Yas Links, Abu Dhabi.
Both Dubai Hills Golf Club and Yas Links, Abu Dhabi will qualify for next season’s Scratch League by promotion to the top league.

C. Bentley & S. Hall lost to H. Carlson & J. Duggan 4&2.
