First round co-leader Padraig Curry shot a second round three under par 69 for a 36 hole total of level par 144 to win the Men’s Club Championship sponsored by Al Masaood at Yas Links Abu Dhabi.
Curry, playing off a +1 handicap, started the day tied at the top on three over after a first round of 75.
He then produced a five birdie – two bogey round, with nines of 34 and 35 over the 6,600 yards par 72 course.
This gave him a victory margin of nine shots from Ricus Lehmkuhl, the 2020 YLAD Club Champion and YLAD Scratch League Captain, who had rounds of 76 and 77 to finish on nine over par 153.
In the Ladies’ Division, played from the 5,400 yards course set-up, 14 year-old Zurich Kanokpornvasin (+1) was out in a five birdie 31 and followed up on the back nine with a mixed bag of four pars, two birdies, an eagle, one bogey and a triple bogey eight on her 36th hole. This brilliant round of 67, could have been even better and gave the teenager a remarkable 24 shot winning margin.
Martin Duff, Golf Operations Manager at Yas Links Abu Dhabi, said at the prize presentation, ‘We have had an excellent two days of golf here at Yas Links Abu Dhabi. A special congratulations to our two champions Padraig and Zurich. We will reflect on Zurich’s 36 holes of golf and although today’s round was not a course record, that is a 66 set by Sana Tufail, Zurich’s 67 will be remembered at the club for a long time to come.’
