The second round of the 2023 Jumeirah Golf Estates Club Championships took place today (Sunday). The first round was played yesterday (Saturday) over the Fire course and the second round over the Earth course.

Winning the Men’s Division was David Bainbridge (+1) who followed up his first round of 72 with a 71 to finish on one under par, 143.

After day one Bainbridge was one behind first round leader Raghav Malik.

Bainbridge started his second round impressively with four birdies and an eagle on hole seven, all in his first eight holes and a bogey on nine saw him make the turn in 32. A three bogey back nine of 39 saw him hand in a 71 and take the title by just one shot.

Raghav had nines of 37 and 36, finishing birdie – par to fall just short of the winner.

On completing his round Bainbridge said, ‘I played really well the whole way. I lost a few silly shots on the back nine and finished par – par – bogey on 16 – 17 and 18, having had a two shot lead with three to play. This is my first Club Championship title at Jumeirah Golf Estates having been here just two years.’

Anca Mateiu (+1) on her 14th birthday, with rounds of 77 - 72, won both the Ladies’ Division and Junior Division (18 years and under) with her 149 total. Sheila McIlroy, the double winning JGE Gross Club Champion in 2020 and 2022 won the Ladies’ Net Division.

James Finnigan (5) won the Senior Division with rounds of 82 and 77. The former +1 handicapper and Scottish Boys International, won the division by one shot from round one co-leader Chris Wilmot. James played a steady round highlighted by three birdies in the middle of his round on holes 7, 12 and 15.

In the net divisions there was a 95% Course Handicap allowance.
