The Desert Rose Golfing Society (DRGS) was on its travels again this week when 18 of our group, all packed with golf clubs and suitcases, took to the UAE roads for a staycation in Abu Dhabi - playing at both Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and Yas Links, Abu Dhabi.

We found the drive to Abu Dhabi seamless, now there is no Covid border check, we just had to show our Green Al Hosn Apps at the golf clubs and at the hotel. It now seems the borders are all down, especially now in Abu Dhabi and I would encourage golfers to visit Abu Dhabi, it does not quite seem as busy as Dubai to get a tee time, whether weekday or even at the weekend.

Day One: we played at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and Day Two we played at Yas Links, Abu Dhabi.

About 60% of the ladies in our group had not played either one, or both of these superb golf courses. Both courses were in tournament condition and we all had a great couple of rounds. It is one of the key initiatives for DRGS as we encourage our lady golfers to explore golf clubs and golf courses in the UAE and wider afield, that they may not have visited before.

This visit was very much a tick-the-box outing for many of our ladies who have not ventured out much over the last couple of years due to Covid.

We were very well looked after at both golf clubs with named bag tag gifting for every player, a nice touch that was well received by us all.

We stayed at the W Abu Dhabi, Yas Island, built over the Yas F1 Racetrack, as one of the Troon Golf partner hotels in Abu Dhabi and we all had lovely rooms with a ‘Team dinner’ at the Garage Restaurant.

Each flight on both days of the golf had a different format as most of the ladies wanted to have fun and experience the course, many for the first time, that is what it is all about, for these newbies.

Our next diary date for the DRGS is the Final DRGS 2021-2022 Order of Merit event at JA The Resort on Monday (April 4) with the usual support from Stuart, Elliott, Luke and the great friendly team at Jebel Ali.

The DRGS has an annual membership with an active and varied golfing calendar, other social activities, plus so much more is delivered through the platform of golf with the objective of connecting with old friends and making new ones. Its mantra is all about developing a ladies golfing community across the UAE, with membership open to both members of golf clubs and non-members of golf clubs, with membership of the Emirates Golf Federation being a stipulation for DRGS membership.

The Desert Rose Golfing Society is supported by the Emirates Golf Federation, Gulf News, BMW, JA Resorts and Hotels, Orient Travel, Golf Superstore, Car Buying People and Mediclinic.
