The European Tour’s Golf in Dubai Championship hosted by DP World in the first week in December 2020 was great for us loyal Jumeirah Golf Estates golfers as it resulted in some well-deserved investment on the Fire Course.

The ‘second’ course at JGE has always lived in its sister’s shadow as the Earth Course has been host to the Race to Dubai finale DP World Tour Championship for many years now. But the arrival of the Golf in Dubai event allowed the Fire Course to shine.

Now, the course playing areas are very good, especially the fairways and green surfaces. However, the summer transition has been a struggle on the Fire Course.

The golf course was also overseeded in preparation for the Golf in Dubai Championship which looked so impressive in December.

However, the downside is always the recovery and ‘collateral damage’ when the summer heat arrives in Dubai.

We enjoy the summer golf at JGE, but we all need to be mindful that the golf courses in the UAE need 12 months renovation in the local harsh climate we have here.

But the management team at Jumeirah Golf Estates and Dubai Golf are doing the right thing with investment in both the Earth and Fire courses over the past two years, and soon we will all see the results.
