I am an 18-handicap Member of The Els Club in Dubai but I frequent other clubs around the UAE. Recently I came upto Abu Dhabi and stayed the night at The Westin right on the course at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort.

I had a pleasant stay and must say that the Italian restaurant Sacci has, in my opinion, the best pizza in Abu Dhabi.

I have played the National Course at Abu Dhabi Golf Club many times, including playing with former Masters champion Danny Willett in the Pro-Am of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Myself and my guest teed first off as a two-ball from the 1st tee at 6.20am on a warm and humid morning and we were back in the Falcon Clubhouse at 9.20am, making great time thanks to an early start.

The golf course condition was good, the greens were fine and the agronomy team are obviously all getting ready for a busy forthcoming season.

I disappointingly found far too many bunkers on the golf course with my ball, but I must make a compliment - all the bunkers were very consistent in their sand texture, unlike many other courses around the UAE.

At the end of the round I almost played to my handicap which is not bad for me.

I was impressed, especially in these times, to see such significant investment by the owner in the clubhouse interior refurbishments as well as the terrace expansion and other enhancement plans I am hearing about. I had a fun day with my guest at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and look forward to returning soon.
