'In the event of a goal, put your scarf around your neck and breathe normally' Benfica fans are told
Dubai: A video of Emirates airline cabin crew giving a flight safety demonstration before last Sunday’s Lisbon derby in Portugal has been viewed almost one million times on YouTube.
Eight flight attendants walked out onto the centre circle at the Estadio da Luz before Benfica’s Primeira Liga clash with city rivals Sporting Lisbon and delivered a tongue-in-cheek version of their usual pre-flight safety routine before the players ran out onto the pitch.

The capacity 65,000 crowd was reminded of the location of the stadium’s 32 exit points and the position of the two goals before being informed that the game would last 90 minutes, 45 minutes either side of a 15 minute interval.
Before the players entered the pitch fans were told to stow their bags under the seat in front of them and turn off any electronic devices so they could concentrate on supporting their team.
In the event of a goal, the announcement said scarves would automatically drop down in front of them, and they were told to place those scarves over their head and breathe normally. Those with children were even told to adopt the embracing position, with the attendants doing the actions for each instruction.
The routine was met with bemusement from fans but generated a raucous applause before kick-off and helped stoke the atmosphere for the derby, which Benfica went on to lose 3-0.
Emirates signed a multi-million euro three-year shirt sponsorship deal with Benfica until the 2017/18 season in May. The agreement came three years after the UAE carrier started flights to the Portuguese capital. Emirates also sponsor Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid, English Premier League side Arsenal, Italian Serie A club AC Milan and French Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint Germain.
