Rome: Pescara won promotion to the Italian top flight on Thursday after completing a 3-1 home and away play-off victory over Trapani to join second division champions Crotone and runners-up Cagliari in Serie A next season.

Having last featured in Serie A in the 2012-2013 season, Pescara finished fourth before the play-off for the final promotion place.

The club are currently coached by Italy’s 2006 World Cup winning player Massimo Oddo, who was also in AC Milan’s 2007 Champions League winning side.

Carpi, Frosinone and Verona were the three sides relegated from Serie A this season.
