Proteas cruise past Pakistan to lift maiden World Championship of Legends trophy
South Africa Champions secured their maiden World Championship of Legends (WCL) title in emphatic style, crushing Pakistan Champions by nine wickets in the final at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Saturday, with AB de Villiers stealing the show with a stunning century.
Pakistan Champions skipper Mohammad Hafeez won the toss and elected to bat first at the iconic venue. Sharjeel Khan provided a solid foundation with a fluent 76, guiding his side to a competitive total of 195 for 5 in their 20 overs.
South African pacers Wayne Parnell and Hardus Viljoen both claimed two wickets each, keeping the scoring in check during the middle overs.
In response, the South African side delivered a clinical performance with the bat. Led by the ever-reliable AB de Villiers, the Proteas chased down the target with remarkable ease.
De Villiers was in vintage form, smashing an unbeaten 120 off just 60 deliveries, peppered with boundaries and towering sixes that left the opposition bowlers helpless.
The South African innings barely faltered, with de Villiers controlling the tempo throughout. The run chase was completed with minimal fuss, sealing a memorable victory for the team and capping off a dominant campaign in the tournament.
This triumph marks a historic moment for South Africa Champions, lifting their maiden WCL trophy with an emphatic performance in the final, led by their star batter’s masterclass.
