Look: Rapid progress for Dubai Metro's futuristic Route 2020 stations

The Route 2020 track extends 15km (11.8km of elevated track and 3.2km of underground track) and links seven stations. It features one interchange station with the Red Line, an iconic station at EXPO 2020 site, three elevated stations and two underground stations.

The Expo 2020 station is the largest station in the Dubai Metro extension project. Millions of visitors are expected to visit during the Expo, and the vast majority will use Route 2020 to get to the venue.

The Discovery Gardens Station is an elevated station spanning 8,600 square metres in area and extending 168 metres in length. It can serve 4,215 riders per hour during peak times and 125,000 riders per day.

Work in progress at the Dubai Investment Park Metro station. The Dubai Metro Expansion project is beneficial for people who live in or near Dubai Investments Park. It will take a little over 10 minutes to reach the Expo 2020 site from this station.

The Gardens is another popular station of Route 2020. Hence, it will take only a few minutes to get on the Red Line from the station. It has the capacity to serve around 125,000 riders per day and includes two platforms.

Route 2020 is set to provide safe and smooth mobility for visitors of Expo 2020 as well as residents of several Dubai communities. It will also serve as a vital corridor between Dubai suburbs and Al Maktoum International Airport in future.

Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro station under construction. Route 2020’s main underground stations are in this area. It is also the largest underground station in Dubai at 28,700 square metres in area and a length of 232 metres.

View of Jumeirah Golf Estates station. The Roads and Transport Authority says once open to commuters, Jumeirah Golf Estates station will be the largest on the Dubai Metro network.

Jebel Ali station. With a total area of 8,800 square metres and reaching 150 metres in length, this is an interchange station with the Red Line. It has four platforms, seven parking slots for people of determination, four bus laybys, and 17 taxi drop-offs.

According to RTA’s studies, the number of Route 2020 is projected to be used by 125,000 riders per day in 2021 and shoot up to about 275,000 riders per day by 2030.

Studies also revealed that Expo Station is expected to witness 35,000 visitors per day during weekdays, and 47,000 visitors per day during weekends. Above, The Gardens station.
