Don’t know the Abu Dhabi speed limit? Beware of this

Abu Dhabi: Various areas across the UAE reported heavy fog on Thursday morning, as unstable weather conditions especially affected Abu Dhabi and the coastal areas.

The National Centre of Meteorology said the UAE will witness fair to partly cloudy weather, especially northward with humidity levels expected to increase at night and into Friday morning, accompanied with light to moderate winds. The sea will range from mild to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.

To ensure the safety of road users, Abu Dhabi Police announced that it reduced the speed limit on highways due to the fog and mist that affected visibility on the roads. On Thursday, the Abu Dhabi - Dubai Road and the Abu Dhabi - Al Ghwaifat Road had their speed limit reduced to 80 km/h.

Earlier this week, the speed limit was changed for almost four hours on Monday. However, a number of motorists driving to Abu Dhabi said they did not see any notices of road changes and were fined for not adhering to the temporary speed limit, which was cut to 80 km/h.

Variable Message Signs (VMS) on the way to and from Dubai will also alert motorists on weather updates and changes to the speed limit. “Abu Dhabi Police call on motorists to exercise caution due to reduced visibility during the fog. They are urged to follow changing speed limits displayed on electronic information boards,” said police on Thursday.
