Richest Filipinos: New faces join top 20 list

RICH LIST: Forbes estimates the combined wealth of the richest Filipinos fell to $72 billion in 2022 from $79 billion in the past year, with over two-thirds of people posting a decline in wealth amid the pandemic. But the Top 20 saw new faces, thanks to post-IPO market performance.

#1. THE SY SIBLINGS, $12.6 billion: The family controls the retail and property giant SM Group and held the top spot of Forbes’ richest list in the Philippines in 2022. The siblings have a net worth estimated at $12.6 billion. It’s a $4-billion drop from previous estimates, marking the biggest decline in dollar terms.

#2. MANUEL VILLAR JR., $7.8 billion: Property tycoon Manuel “Manny” Villar Jr. has a fortune estimated at $7.8 billion. He added $1.1 billion in the past year, making him the country’s biggest dollar gainer.

#3. ENRIQUE RAZON JR., $5.6 billion: Ports magnate Enrique Razon Jr., with a net worth estimated at $5.6 billion, landed on the third spot among wealthiest Filipinos. Razon’s net worth saw a slight decline in the past year amid the country’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
