We don’t have to be selfish or greedy in protecting our planet Earth. The reason for us enjoying life on this beautiful planet is because of the hard work done by our ancestors, who protected it in every possible way like introducing more greenery, organic food, less pollution due to minimal use of vehicles and most importantly — good communication. Because of their sacrifice, we are living a healthy life today, now it is our turn and responsibility to do the same. It is in every individual’s hand how they protect their environment. We have become very selfish and all we worry about is ourselves and as a result of our carelessness — we are damaging our environment on a daily basis.

Because of the fact that we use most of the necessary resources from this planet, it is our responsibility to do the needful to save it. We cannot continue to take without giving back.

While Earth Day may be an annual event, we should encourage activities that protects the environment such as planting more trees, only use necessary amount of electricity and water, stop littering and wasting food. The latter is most important as every day, there are children around the world going to bed without food.

Another important aspect to keep in mind is wasting paper. Parents should provide only required stationery to their children and for things that can be recycled, store them and give it for recycling instead of throwing them in a dustbin. The above activities are only a few, but by taking such measures, we might witness a big difference in our environment one day. In addition, other than doing this for ourselves and our society, we must set an example for future generations to look back at and remember with pride. We need to do what our ancestors once did for us.

When we use the term ‘Mother’ to describe our planet Earth, we need to respect and show it the same kind of love that we would show our own mothers — only then can we proudly call Earth our ‘Mother Earth’.
