G*nice: How do you imagine me?

Friday columnist, G*nice, talks about a reader called Happy Friday

Last updated:

I look forward to checking my inbox with your thoughts and responses to my random wittering, and this week I have some real corkers to share with you. First off, I have to introduce you to one reader called Happy Friday.

Now I know like me, you are thinking that this is somehow a nickname that has been assumed by an individual trying to make themselves seem more "happening", but stop. This is a real name! Born into the Friday family in 1985, and given the first name "Happy", our new friend is real. Like Happy says "I had to live with the name... but a name as Happy Friday came with a lot of responsibility". I totally empathise with Happy who no doubt feels that he has to be the life and soul of every party, as I have to walk through life being "Nice". It's a weight that I feel sure I can say both of us are willing to carry onwards! Happy had an interesting final thought that if he were me, he would "be thinking about starting up an apple business with loads of flavours". That's a curve ball even for me… I don't know if anyone would want to buy an apple that tasted like a biscuit but seeing it's coming from you, I will go along with it. I received another request to reveal my true self from Ms CDG. I have to decline; not because I am insecure about my looks but the man-of-mystery approach has worked for me (and us?) for so long that it's surely part of the magic now. I am like Charlie from Charlie's Angels, it's fun to keep y'all guessing. I don't know what picture you have of me. Do you imagine me as young, old? How do you know if that picture at the top of the page is me? I might even be a girl… I will re-open the picture competition and encourage you to send in what you think I look like.

Ms Rufina wrote in praising the article ‘Loud & Proud' where I spoke about my attitude towards how I approach life - not really caring too much about what people think of me. Rufina is in the 12th grade and amazingly admitted to sharing many of my thoughts and goes as far as to say that I am "an inspiration". That's a worrying thought for me because I don't think of myself in that light. At best, I get the opportunity to say some things out loud in the hope that it unpeels the layers of the complex onion that is life. I am touched and humbled when I get such positive feedback. It reminds me of the responsibility that comes with the privilege position I have to talk to you.

My biggest reward is hearing that somehow I provoke the urge for others to express themselves. On that note, respect goes to Ermira E who is feeling my "randomness" and quotes me in her own writings on her blogspot. On the apology for not asking permission, just go ahead, spread the love and randomness with abandon!

Last word goes to Farrukh who asks me what my zodiac is. I have no belief in such things but I am a Sagittarius if that means anything.

Bright like a Star-ingly yours
