Every life lost in an accident is a needless loss that drains society of its human resource potential
The death of the young Emirati role model Dr Moza Sultan Al Kaabi in a road accident in Fujairah last week once again highlights the utter waste of human potential caused by the random forces of tragedy. Dr Al Kaabi was the first Emirati woman to earn a master’s degree in orthopaedic surgery and was also an International Goodwill Ambassador, who was passionate about giving back to society. At 31, she was at the threshold of a great life ahead of her. But the senseless nature of the tragedy, that is typified by road accidents, ensures that all forms of human potential is rendered ineffectual. Every life lost in a road accident is premature, a hugely needless loss that drains society of its human resource potential.
Though road deaths in the UAE have decreased this year as compared to the last — statistics released by the authorities reveal that the number of deaths was down 21 per cent this year compared to the same period in 2014 — our roads need to become more safe. And every one of us must do our bit in ensuring that outcome.
