A bridge of much consequence

Without a doubt, Al Ittihad Road is one of the most dangerous roads in Sharjah. Accidents on the busy thoroughfare have claimed many lives in recent years.

This is because people are often forced to run amongst speeding cars in order to cross to the other side. The most recent accident occurred on Sunday when a young woman died after being knocked down by a speeding car.

In fact, Al Ittihad has had some of the worst cases of hit-and-runs in the emirate. Bearing that in mind, it comes as great news that the Directorate of Public Works Department has confirmed plans to construct a pedestrian bridge in that area. This is urgently needed to make the area a safer place for pedestrians. Plans to add a service road on each side of the Sharjah-Dubai highway are also purposeful and will ease the parking problem for residents around the Al Safeer Mall area.
