Dubai: Private sector employees in the UAE will have their Eid Al Fitr holidays on the first and second of the Islamic month of Shawwal, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced on Tuesday.

Depending on the sighting of the crescent for the month of Shawwal on Thursday, the first day of Shawwal or Eid Al Fitr might either fall on June 15 or 16.

If the first of Shawwal falls on June 15, which is a Friday, most of the private sector employees will not have any additional days off other then the usual weekend.

However, Eid Al Fitr holidays for government employees begin on Thursday, 29th of Ramadan or June 14 and lasts until the third of Shawwal.

If the Eid Al Fitr falls on June 15 (first of Shawwal), the public sector Eid holidays would be from Thursday to Sunday or four days off.

However, if Eid falls on Saturday, then the public sector holidays would be from Thursday to Monday, making it a five-day weekend for government employees.
