Dubai: The Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) has set the application deadline for the fifth Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award for June 25.
Held under the patronage of MBRF chairman Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the competition enters its second round of qualifications on June 26, with the winners set to be announced during MBRF’s Knowledge Summit in December which this year bears the theme ‘Youth and the Future of the Knowledge Economy’.
The award honours knowledge pioneers — individuals or institutions — from around the world, who have made significant and impactful contributions towards producing and disseminating knowledge across various sectors.
“Over the years, the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award has gained prominence for bearing the name of a great and inspiring leader, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,” said Jamal Bin Huwaireb, MBRF’s CEO and the award’s secretary-general.
“His Highness has long advocated promoting creativity and innovation in our society to build a robust knowledge economy that can create and spread knowledge to the world.
“Each year, the award attracts more and more applicants from all around the world,” Bin Huwaireb noted.
“This is evidence that knowledge is not bound by country, and innovation does not recognise borders. The bulk of submissions for this year’s edition of the award came from outside the UAE, and individual candidates outnumbered institutions. This makes us all the more certain that there is no shortage of brilliant innovators in the world — creative thinkers that merit praise and recognition.”
The foundation called on individuals and institutions around the world to benefit from the few remaining days and submit their applications on the award’s official website: www.knowledgeaward.com.
The foundation revealed that the number of candidatures already submitted has reached 230, coming from Egypt, Algeria, Syria, Jordan, the UAE, Italy, India, Iraq, Libya, Switzerland, Oman, Romania, Russia, Canada, Tunisia, Bahrain, the Philippines, the UK, Lebanon, Japan, Yemen and Sudan. Submissions spanned various categories, including development, innovation, entrepreneurship, education, scientific research, and communication technology.
Individuals and organisations from the public and private sectors are eligible to apply for the award, with submissions accepted from local, regional or international entities. The award cannot, however, be given posthumously. The entry criteria stipulate that individuals or organisations applying should have made a significant and measurable contribution to knowledge production and dissemination within one of the award’s categories.
Furthermore, submissions should be accompanied by letters from referees with expertise in the field, as well as supporting documents. The content of the submissions must adhere to standards and ethics of scientific research, integrity and intellectual property rights. The award is open to individuals or organisations that have won the prize in previous years, providing they meet the required conditions. Applications that do not meet all the stipulated requirements will not be accepted.
