The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) won the 'Best Pavilion Award' at the 2018 Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), one of the largest international book fairs in the world. With more than 2000 exhibitors participating from around the world, the Fair was concluded yesterday after running for 5 days. DCT Abu Dhabi participation in BIBF is part of the roadshow launched to promote Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF). Abu Dhabi: The Department of Culture and Tourism — Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) won the ‘Best Pavilion Award’ at the 2018 Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), one of the largest international book fairs in the world, with more than 2,000 exhibitors participating from around the world at the five-day event.

DCT Abu Dhabi’s participation in BIBF is part of its roadshow to promote Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF). Organised annually by the DCT Abu Dhabi, ADIBF is one of the most significant international fairs and the fastest growing in the Middle East and North Africa region. Aiming to attract new publishers to ADIBF 2019, to be held from 24—30 April, the roadshow included a series of meetings hosting publishing specialists from China and the world.

Dr. Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the People’s Republic of China, visited DCT Abu Dhabi’s pavilion, and viewed the publications of Dar Al Kutub (the National Library) and the ongoing preparations for ADIBF’s upcoming edition.

Abdullah Majed Al Ali, acting executive director of the National Library Sector at DCT Abu Dhabi, and director of ADIBF, said: “DCT Abu Dhabi’s participation in the Beijing International Book Fair showcased the cultural diversity seen in Abu Dhabi. It also represented Abu Dhabi’s quality initiatives for attracting publishers and writers, especially through ADIBF, which aims to create better opportunities for Arab publishers, introduce Arab readers with international publishers and extending cultural bridges through dialogue.

“Such participations enable us to enrich the cultural and professional programmes of ADIBF, which attracted 1,350 exhibitors from 63 countries last year. We are currently working to enhance the quality of the fair’s visitor experience to meet the expectations of its local and international guests, while maintaining the standards protecting intellectual property, and translation copyrights,” he added.

During its 27th edition, ADIBF hosted China as the 2017 Guest of Honour. China’s participation featured a wide range of Chinese writers and authors, and resulted in the establishment of sustainable strategic relations between the two countries.
