Recently, we went to the accommodation for ETA ASCON Group workers in Al Quoz, Dubai. We found out in advance that most of the workers residing there were from South India and they expressed their desire to eat congee, which is supposed to be the staple for their iftar back home. It is a warm and comforting rice porridge.

The workers were really happy to see us and gave us a warm welcome. We prepared the place in order to accommodate 275 people, so that they could sit together and have iftar. We served them juice, samosas, fruits, dates along with best quality biryani and congee.

As soon as the Azaan (call for prayer) was heard, they ended their fast and enjoyed the food. I was elated that they got something they had been longing to eat this Ramadan. They were extremely grateful. However, the beaming smile and joy on their faces was enough to make our day.

There is no joy bigger than giving someone else a few moments of joy. That’s what Ramadan teaches us and such charities are one way of making others happy.
