A woman has created a storm by putting herself in the eye of the hurricane.

The woman tried to evade a one-year re-entry ban by using eye drops to fool the iris scan, but was arrested at the airport. The woman, whose identity was not revealed, was originally deported last year, said a source from the immigration department.

"She thought she could fool the police and enter the country again if she used eye drops, which widen the iris," the source said.

He said the woman changed her name and got a new passport while she was back home.

At the airport, the woman told police she needed to use the bathroom, the source said.

"The eye scan was not clear. We asked her to wait."

She was sent with a policewoman to the washroom and was caught applying the eye drops, he said.

Dr Najwa Jamil, an ophthalmologist, said the woman may have used eye drops that widened the iris, thereby making it difficult to get an accurate reading.
