Sharjah: A total of 426 illegal residents were arrested during September and October by authorities in Sharjah. The arrests came during a crackdown on loitering in public places, Sharjah Police said. Those arrested had entered the UAE without proper visas and were living off cash they earned either throught hawking goods on the street, begging or gambling.

Colonel Jihad Sahoo, Head of CID at Sharjah Police, said most of those arrested lived in abandoned buildings, building sites, workshops and empty labour accommodation. He urged all community members to cooperate with the security agencies and report any suspicious acts or crimes.
