If you're looking to suspend reality for a couple of hours this Valentine's Day, what better place to do that than at Cavalli Club at the Fairmont, Dubai? Enter a magical world of love on Tuesday with a five-course menu that bears little resemblance to the ordinary.
First, a lobster and mango cake combines the freshness of the shellfish with the natural sweetness of the fruit. Served with tomato jelly, ginger and a yogurt sauce, it's amazing how the different elements combine into a silky whole while each taste remains discernible.
Next, the chefs go all-out on love with a red lover's ravioli — the pasta is the colour of love and heart-shaped, and stuffed with goose liver and Parmesan. Add heady, almost truffle-like porcini mushrooms, and the result is intoxicating.
After a palate-cleaning strawberry and raspberry sorbet, you have a choice of two mains. Beef and veal tenderloin, simply prepared with beautiful pink centres, are enhanced by a duo of yellow capsicum and red masala sauce and served with sauteed vegetables. The other option is a turbot fillet, firm and fresh, with a caviar and champagne sauce that combines well with the earthiness of stewed lentils.
San Valentine cake rounds off the meal, by which time you should have your loved one eating out of the palm of your hand — literally and figuratively.
