The interior of the Ottomans restaurant at Grosvenor House, Dubai, has been designed to give immediate impact: A waterfall cascading over a wall of black marble, flanked by a double staircase, lends a touch of sultry drama to the entrance — and you know you are in for a great evening.

Crevices in the burnished gold walls are lit with candles, inviting diners into an intimate refreshments area — one of the hotel's best-kept secrets.

Recline on velvet cushions while you are attended to by richly costumed waiting staff.

The intimate eatery located on the banks of Dubai Marina mixes a range of regional Turkish influences and adds a few creative twists.

The food is as sumptuous as you would expect from a high-end eatery. But interestingly, chef Deniz Katranci has managed to retain something of a rustic feel in the dishes that harks you back to that trip to Istanbul.

Deniz redesigned the menu at Ottomans to include Pancange Boregi, a succulent pastrami and cheese-stuffed filio dough, Yourlama Soup, a yoghurt-flavoured chickpea-and-meatball soup, in addition to an Anatolian Turkish-style beef-and-lamb kebab fused with eggplant.

Don't miss out on the traditional mixed Turkish starters.

Now that the weather is getting warmer, guests can even sit outside on the veranda, choose from the delicious range of house beverages and take in the dramatic skyline of the marina.

Ottomans scores high on the “overall experience'' front too, as guests are entertained by friendly musicians, who move among the tables, playing traditional Turkish instruments and singing folk songs.

Ottomans is somewhere you can go to relax for a few hours — the ambience is so relaxing you'll be puzzled at how time flies.
