They say you can't choose your family but you can choose your friends. Well, these guys are well worth being friends with.

Food always tastes better when you don't have to make it yourself and it tastes even better if the dishes you haven't had to slave over are made by your mates who just happen to be six of the best chefs in Dubai.

Six of the city's best chefs have joined forces and are preparing to whip up six fabulous courses for their friends.

Cooking for Friends is a new initiative which offers around 70 people the chance to sit in an informal atmosphere and enjoy top-notch food among friends.

This month's event will be held at St Maxims, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai, on Friday, November 10, and will be led by the restaurant's executive chef Julienne – one of the six friends.

Around the world

One of the other chefs involved is Chef Matthias Gfroerer from Germany who has many fresh ideas for cooking.

Matthias is a professional chef trained in Germany in the Leading Hotel "Vier Jahreszeiten" in Hamburg and many in Dubai may know him better through Cooking Sense, a cuisine school for people in the region.

He has travelled around the world to develop his talent and came to Dubai just a few month ago in order to explore the taste of Middle Eastern cuisine.

He said: "Cooking for Friends is a wonderful concept we are trying to nurture here in Dubai.

"We want people to understand that our events are about good food, wines and, most importantly, company."

Top-class evening

With more than 60 years experience among them, the chefs get together and each choose a dish to prepare for the evening and make suggestions for drink combinations to compliment their choice.

On the evening guests are treated to a few starters before the courses are served along with pre-dinner cocktails.

Matthias added: "This is not about the commercial side of cuisine for any of us. We already work in the industry and make our money through various means. This is about a top-class evening with friends — not about making money.

"We invite you to come along and enjoy all the evening brings."
