Property Weekly explores how the principles of vaastu shastra apply in choosing plots and constructing structures

Vaastu shastra is all about positivity in space. When we talk about space, it becomes very important to understand its correct definition. Space is not just the environment within a property, be it residential or commercial. Space covers the surroundings within and all around.
The energies of a property are better defined based on the energy of the land the property is built upon. Every unit of land on Earth has its own set of energies. When any construction or excavation is activated, the energies there get disturbed. This disturbance decides the energies of the property that is build there. As the energies get disturbed, it becomes very important to stabilise the disturbance, channel the flow of energies and build a momentum such that these energies flow in the required manner.
Whenever any construction or excavation starts under the guidelines of vaastu shastra, the movement in energies created on that property is such that it is spontaneously and very naturally working towards a progressive and a positive environment. As the construction proceeds, the principles of vaastu shastra help in completion of the task at ease and without any hitches. Irrespective of whether one is constructing a villa, a stand-alone structure such as a school or hospital, or a building on a property, the principles remain the same.
It is of utmost importance to keep certain things in mind while purchasing land as this is the first and the foremost step towards growth. Check on the following aspects:
- Shape of the plot — One must always opt for uniform shapes of land. Square and rectangular are the most preferred ones. Avoid properties that are uneven, oval, circular, etc. Shapeless properties can be rectified to a certain extent. Based on the directions and the kind of irregularity in the shape, some plots are considered suitable for living and some are considered apt for a commercial property.
- Slope — The natural gradient of the plot can be determined visually very easily. The slope of the plot must always as a rule be upward, and towards the south and the west. When one pours water over the land, it must naturally flow towards the north and east. This indicates good progress in the future.
- Surroundings — It is very important to understand the surroundings of the property one is investing in. Public structures such as schools and libraries are very positive features to live close to. Avoid living in close proximity to a graveyard. The distance of most suitable proximity is identified based upon the dimensions and directions of the property.
- Energy — Every site has its own energies. These can be identified by means of dowsing or meditating. Energy in such cases cannot be quantified but one can definitely identify the flow of energies.
Once you have selected your property, there are various aspects you need to keep in mind for the construction phase:
- Any work on the land must not start until all the above requirements have been taken care of.
- The architectural plan must be in accordance to the principles of vaastu with proper zoning.
- Any kind of excavation is to start from the northern or eastern side of the site.
- Any kind of construction is to start from the south or the west.
- Only use new and unused products for construction.
- Remember to never let debris lie about in the north or east of the property during construction.
- During construction one must always light a yellow or orange bulb in the south at the highest point. This allows the construction to move on without any delays and also avoids any unnecessary shortage of finances during construction.
- The water body required for constructional needs is best placed along the north or east of the site.
These are just some of the guidelines one must keep in mind. Following these principles definitely paves a pathway towards not just a timely finish of the construction but also completion without many hassles. This is also the stepping stone for a brighter and progressive future.
Lastly, just like self-medication is never recommended, practising vaastu shastra for one’s property without expert guidance is never recommended.
