Make a fortune as clubs fire coaches

Last updated:

In a country where millionaires are made every day I have come up with my own way of making a fortune. Every head coach has his initials printed on to his training kit – with the rate of change in the coaching staff at clubs it must cost a fortune to replace.

I propose a simple system where the coaches' initials are only stuck on with Velcro. This would mean clubs could save a fortune when they sack their coach. No need for new training kit. All they have to do is swap the initials for another set.

My key to a fortune comes in by being exclusive supplier of the Velcro letters, business will boom and I can stay ahead of the game by hanging around club training grounds where the team has lost two in a row. This is really a long-winded way of me telling you that yet another coach has handed back his training kit and trudged off into the distance.

Ahmad Abdul Haleem waves goodbye to Al Wahda after two defeats in a row. The Abu Dhabi club have gone for experience in the shape of Austrian coach Josef Hickersberger. He guided the national team in Euro 2008.

That team, to be fair, did perform a lot better than people expected. It was a team considered the worst to ever compete in a Euro finals and one that the Austrian nation did not think worthy to represent them in a national poll that demanded they be removed from the competition. Welcome to the league Josef and remember what I said about the Velcro initials.

Al Ain shocker

It was a huge game last weekend between Al Ain and Al Jazira. I was surprised to hear the result – a 2-0 win for Jazira.

I didn't see the game because I was in Liverpool, so when I checked on the internet I rubbed my eyes and did a slight double take as I fully expected Al Ain to win. I had the feeling that this game was going to be the one that showed Al Ain as a class apart and from hereon in they would cruise towards the title.

I was wrong and the win means a huge amount to the owners of Al Jazira as it shows their investment in Brazilian talent on the bench has paid off. The talent on the pitch in the shape of Rafael Sobis was suspended for this game which makes this result even more significant.

This weekend it is make or break for Al Ain. They are four points behind the leaders Al Ahli who they play in the pick of the fixtures. If they win this game then they close the gap on Al Ahli to a single point. If they lose ground on the leaders then Al Ain will be wishing they invested in my Velcro coaches' kit idea.

If Al Jazira can win then they could go top of the league after the weekend if their rivals Al Ahli fail to record a victory.
