DUBAI Over 2,000 kids have already signed up for the Etisalat Dubai Kids Run to be held at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre on March 20-21.

With the numbers expected to further increase, children between the ages of 4 and 12 will kick-start the weekend for two races.

They will be greeted by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Hasher Al Maktoum, UAE Olympic shooting champion, on the starting line.

“We’re overwhelmed by the number of registrations received for the event. It has more than surpassed our expectations, and we’re delighted with all the positive feedback received. This event promises to educate children on the importance of health and staying active, in a fun, exciting manner,” said Dominic De Sousa, founder of Etisalat Dubai Kids’ Run.

Interestingly greater interests of registrations have been in the four to eight age group category with guardians wishing to run alongside their children. “It’s fantastic and very encouraging to see so many parents wanting to get involved – and, now they finally have a platform to do so,” De Sousa added.

After the race, families and children of all ages can have a fun-filled weekend at the fully equipped, child-friendly Fun Fair, which will be filled with exciting activities.

The event will also encourage special kids from a variety of organisations such as the Dubai Autism Centre, Zayed Higher Organisation, and Sharjah Hum-anitarian City.

Roadshow

“Kids’ are natural runners, but whether they’re accompanying you on a run or participating in a school programme, they require special care at every step of their development. This day is made just for children, and I encourage all families to take advantage of all the post activities we have planned,” Ahmed Kamali president of the UAE Athletics Federation said.

The event will be inaugurated by an official Athens Olympic Torch lighting ceremony. “Launch of the event represents a monumental milestone for child fitness in the UAE. For the first time ever, an Olympic torch has been flown into Dubai, from Athens and will open the event,” said Panagiotis Dimakos, chairman, Greek Olympics Committee and Vice President, Greek Athletics Federation.
