A harmonious blend of Hindustani classical music, Nazrul and Tagore melodies with Kathak and semi-classical dances will be presented as Dusk to Dawn by Surchhandam at the Le Grand Hall of Al Falaj Hotel on November 27.
Surchhandam is a creative non-profit organisation established in 1972 in India by the husband and wife duo of A.K. and Tripti Chakraborty to promote the Hindustani style of classical music.
An accomplished Hindustani classical music exponent and teacher, Tripti Chakraborty was trained under K.C. Banerjee and Deepali Nag among others.
Over the past three decades, Surchhandam has performed numerous concerts in India and Dubai.
The couple, based in Muscat, is committed to encourage local talent and hope to reach out to a wider audience through their programmes.
A leading Pakistani qawali group will perform at the Pakistan School in Muscat on Thursday.
Sher Miandad Khan, the resident qawal at the holy shrine of Baba Fareed-ud-Din Ganj Shakar, the highly revered Sufi poet of Pakistan, will visit Oman at the invitation of the Pakistani embassy to celebrate Pakistan's 60th year of independence.
Sher Miandad belongs to Pakistan's illustrious family of qawals, which also included the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Sher Miandad and his group have developed a reputation for deep understanding and skill in traditional qawali as well as modern music.
He started singing qawali at Pak Patan as the resident qawal in 1996 and soon won acclaim as a unique qawali singer.
Sher Miandad and his group have performed for Pakistan Television and Pakistan Radio on many occasions.
Having made his presence felt at the World Performing Art Festivals in Lahore, he also performed at concerts in Geneva and other European countries.
Pupils today must be taken beyond textbooks and given broader information, says a medical practitioner and honorary chairman of the Indian Social Club, Dr Sathish Nambiar.
"We are genuinely committed to the cause of children's intellectual development apart from serious textbooks, thus we organise contests like this quiz," he said while announcing the HSBC Inter-School Quiz Championship to be hosted by India's quizmaster, Derek O'Brien.
Dr Nambiar said that the quiz contest helps students acquire greater knowledge which is a must in this era of increasing globalisation.
"We try to include students of different nationalities, disciplines and schools in our format."
