Dubai A jittery suspect’s refusal to be taken to hospital after briefly fainting following a police search inadvertently led cops to nab a thief who squirrelled away expensive garments from his employer.

Court records on Wednesday revealed that at around 1.15am on April 28, a police patrol in Um Al Ramool stopped near a Mitsubishi Lancer parked between huge trucks.

When the policeman approached the car, he noted three men inside. He requested M.A., a 24-year-old Pakistani driver, to produce his driver’s licence and the car’s registry, which the driver did readily.

Upon handing the policeman his documents, the driver stepped out of the car and fainted.

As soon as the policeman revived him, he asked if he needed an ambulance. The driver refused. M.A.’s abrupt refusal raised the policeman’s suspicions, so he asked the suspects to accompany him to Al Rashidiya police station.

Upon searching the vehicle, police found a huge quantity of expensive fabric.

Two of the suspects said the fabric belonged to the first suspect, M.A.

“When I asked him how he got this fabric, he said that the company’s manager gave it to him,” B.M., a 38-year-old policeman, told prosecutors.

Upon checking with the watchman’s company, the police discovered that the fabric was actually stolen.

The suspects were then arrested and held at Jebel Ali police station.

The next hearing is scheduled for August 5.
