What? When? Where? Why? A Notes exclusive report from the Dubai Knowledge Village
In an effort to make higher education more affordable, the Dubai Knowledge Village announces its first annual scholarship programme with a value of Dh3 million.
The programme is open to UAE nationals, expatriates and international students who wish to study at a Dubai Knowledge Village university.
In an exclusive interview, Dr Abdullah Al Karam, CEO of the Dubai Knowledge Village told Notes that the programme aims to attract gifted students who cannot afford higher education.
This programme identifies and supports students from around the region who, despite having the talent may not have the means to study in Dubai, he said.
Dr Al Karam said the programme also aims to encourage high school students to work harder to be eligible for the scholarships.
The scholarships vary from one university to another. Some cover tuition fees for the entire duration of study and extra expenses, while some are offered for specific courses and degrees.
The scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit, according to the Dubai knowledge Village Department of Student Services and Programmes.
Dr Al Karam said, We want to become more international and encourage students to blend. Through offering these scholarships we try to attract more international and regional students and turn Dubai into an educational hub.
He said the scholarships make it easier for people living in the Middle East and Asia to send their sons and daughters to the Dubai Knowledge Village universities, especially if they find it difficult to send them to a Western country.
All students can apply.
Universities participating in the initiative will be funding 96 scholarships. Applicants can apply to any programme within the institutions.
Students will need to submit their resume, two letters of reference, evidence of community-related activities and proof of citizenship in their country of origin to apply for the initiative.
Scholarships are an integral part of Dubai Knowledge Universities mission [Academic City] to develop Dubai into a destination for education, said Al Karam.
We would like to thank the universities participating in the scholarship scheme for the important investment they are making in this regions talent.
