One in six people in the UAE suffer from Asthma

The respiratory condition can be caused by genetic and environmental factors

On the occasion of World Asthma Day on May 2, the latest statistics released suggest one in six UAE residents suffer from Asthma. The condition occurs when the airways are inflamed and narrowed, making breathing difficult, and triggering coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Asthma is said to be caused by genetic and environmental factors. According to experts, even slight exposure to dust, smoke or chemical fumes can trigger or aggravate asthma.

According to the World Health Organisation, 235 million people suffer from asthma. The report also points out that boys are more likely to have asthma than girls. But women are more likely to have asthma than men.
