From weatherproof wonders to stylish small-space solutions, experts share how to create your perfect alfresco retreat with comfort, style, and sustainability in mind

With the weather in the UAE finally playing nice, it’s time to ditch the AC and turn your backyard into the envy of the neighborhood. This season’s outdoor décor trends are all about combining style, comfort, and eco-friendly vibes to create the perfect alfresco retreat.

“Natural wood tones and luxurious textures are taking center stage,” says Rhena Ahmadie, Senior Visual Merchandiser at Crate & Barrel Middle East. Eco-conscious homeowners will love the brand’s Mallorca Collection, crafted from sustainably sourced eucalyptus wood, which adds warmth and durability to any setting. For those looking for a cosy, weather-resistant touch, the Grotta Outdoor Wicker Collection is a top pick. Ahmadie also highlights the trend of seamless indoor-outdoor living: “Our Seascape Outdoor Sectional blends indoor comfort with outdoor resilience, creating a space that’s stylish and inviting.”

Artificial greenery is another trend that’s growing — literally. “Plants, grass carpets, and fences made from artificial materials are an effortless way to add color and vibrancy without worrying about upkeep,” believes Sayed Habib, Director at Danube Home. Their outdoor sofa sets and dining options are a hit for family gatherings or hosting friends, while swings and sun loungers add a touch of elegance. “Don’t forget to finish the look with outdoor lights and cushions,” Habib suggests. “They pull the entire space together and make it feel warm and cozy.”

For those craving a more refined outdoor experience, Maysaa Noureddine, Designer at Al Huzaifa Design Studio, has the formula. “This season is about creating an alfresco oasis that reflects the sophistication of indoor living,” she explains. Think organic shapes, earthy tones, and furniture with couture-like silhouettes. “Complement clean-lined outdoor sofas with weather-resistant cushions in soft, warm hues to create an atmosphere that’s both chic and inviting.”

The great outdoors also deserve furniture that’s as tough as it is chic. This season, it’s all about finding materials and finishes that can shrug off scorching sun, relentless rain, and everything in between — without sacrificing style.

“Durability and aesthetics go hand in hand,” believes Ahmadie. Pieces like their Dune Black Outdoor Chaise Lounge and Kinney Teak Coffee Table exemplify this blend. “Teak offers timeless charm and excellent weather resistance, while sleek, modern finishes elevate the look to fit any outdoor space,” she says.

For those battling the elements, Danube Home has the solutions. “We focus on weather-resistant materials like treated wood, rust-proof metals, and UV-protected fabrics,” explains Habib. “Our UV-resistant cushions and umbrellas are not only functional but also incredibly comfortable, perfect for sunny climates.” He also highlights their lightweight, moisture-resistant planters, designed for easy maintenance. “Our products are built to last with finishes that resist rust and moisture, ensuring they stay in great condition year-round.”

Noureddine agrees that the key is choosing the right materials. “High-quality aluminum and stainless steel are lightweight yet durable, while teak and eucalyptus wood offer natural beauty and resistance to moisture and insects,” she says. For finishes, Noureddine recommends powder-coated metal frames for added protection against rain and sun. “Cushions crafted from fade-resistant, water-repellent fabrics ensure that your pieces remain vibrant and functional no matter the weather.”

Tiny spaces, big style

Who says size matters? When it comes to outdoor spaces, even the smallest balconies and patios can be transformed into functional, stylish retreats with a little creativity and the right furniture.

“Optimising compact areas starts with versatile seating,” says Ahmadie. She recommends pieces like the Morocco Graphite Oval Lounge Chair, which combines a sleek hand-wrapped resin design with plush cushions for ultimate comfort. “Space-saving bistro sets are another smart choice, creating a relaxing vibe without overwhelming the space.”

Bring the indoors out

Your outdoor space isn’t just a patio — it’s an extension of your home, and with the right design elements, it can rival any interior for comfort and style. This season, experts agree: it’s all about layering textures, embracing nature-inspired tones, and adding those oh-so-important finishing touches.

“A well-curated outdoor space starts with a cohesive design,” believes Noureddine. Neutral tones like beige, gray, and soft whites form the perfect backdrop, allowing earthy accent colors such as forest greens, terracotta, and muted blues to shine. “Accessories like plush cushions, stylish throws, and elegant outdoor curtains soften the area, creating a sense of comfort and intimacy,” she says. Lighting, too, is essential. “Ambient lanterns or fairy lights cast a warm glow, transforming the mood as day fades into night.”

For Ahmadie it’s all about the accents. “Earth-toned throw pillows, plush blankets, and outdoor rugs add warmth and coziness, while solar-powered lanterns bring ambiance,” she says. Ahmadie also recommends adding greenery and bold planters to breathe life into the space. “Don’t forget a stylish umbrella for sunny days and weather-resistant side tables for entertaining—it’s these details that make the space inviting and functional.”

Habib champions the mix-and-match approach. “Our outdoor furniture in neutral tones pairs beautifully with vibrant accessories like cushions, planters, and rugs,” he explains. Lighting plays a dual role in his vision: “Our solar-powered garden lights and string lights add charm and make the space more functional in the evenings.” To define areas, Habib recommends structural elements like gazebos and pergolas, which elevate the dining or lounging experience. “Add garden ornaments, BBQ setups, and artificial plants for a touch of personality that reflects your style.”
