Unusual choice of colour and even more unusual choice of outfit. When 37-year-old Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha decided to marry the love of her life and co-actor Zaheer Iqbal on June 23, she ditched the thought of wearing extravagant lehengas in resplendent hues. Instead, she decided to wear a sari from her mother Poonam Sinha’s trousseau. The 44-year-old chikankari sari, hand-embroidered with intricate and traditional motifs and designs is not just a testimony to understated elegance but its ivory colour – a rare choice for bridal wear – adds to its timeless allure. Sonakshi paired the stunning sari with a blouse in matching hues and staying true to the colour palette, she embellished her slick bun with white roses, creating a bridal look that was an epitome of ethereal poise.
If that wasn’t all, Sonakshi opted for a gorgeous red banarasi sari for the post wedding party, again staying away from the Indo-western trend that has been all the rage recently. Designed by Raw Mango, a label founded by Sanjay Garg to honour India’s rich textile and weaving heritage, the vermillion red sari with exquisite chaand boota motifs in golden zari work, highlighted Sonakshi’s own love for Indian fashion and design.
Soon after when it was time to cut the wedding cake and dance the night away, Sonakshi changed into a comfortable yet intricately designed outfit by Anita Dongre. In deep maroon colour with bold motifs, the flowing silhouette of this sharara set ensured Sonakshi looked stunning as well as comfortable enough to enjoy her special day with her friends and loved ones.
