Fans debate Hoshi's intentions behind Instagram activity
War is raging between certain sections of BTS ARMY’s and Seventeen’s Carats. Hoshi, a member of the latter, caused a firestorm on Instagram by ‘liking’ a reel, that ARMY’s noted was shading BTS. The two bands are on good terms with each other.
But, was he really?
It all started when Hoshi liked an Instagram reel celebrating Seventeen’s powerful ‘Hit’ performance at the 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). The post’s caption read: “Never forget SVT performance ‘Hit’ on 2019 MAMA right after they lost the ‘Best Dance Performance’ award.” Almost immediately, screenshots of Hoshi’s like began circulating on X (formerly Twitter), with some interpreting it as subtle shade toward BTS, who won the award that year. This sparked intense online debate.
Some fans defended Hoshi, pointing out that he has previously spoken highly of BTS, calling them top-tier performers and saying he’s learned from watching their shows. Others argued the reel wasn’t an attack on BTS at all, but rather a critique of the award show and a show of pride in SEVENTEEN’s own performance. In fact, Hoshi on Suga's show, Suchwita, had thanked BTS for 'paving' the way, and had praised them for their hard work.
However, the backlash and bitterness about Hoshi was intense, to the point, many called him ‘bitter loser’ and a ‘snake’, when, truth to be told, he might have just been appreciating his own band’s performance. Well, what stays on Twitter, remains on Twitter, because BTS, as much as they love their fans, also maintain close relationships with Seventeen members, despite the rivalries between the fandoms.
