Everything possible that you can think of, happens in this show
Whew, if you’re looking for something absolutely dramatic and so soapy, I would say, track down Curious Play. Now that’s an anime that just hits out on all fronts: Supernatural, romance (oh my), thriller, a twisted friendship story in the middle, somewhere too.
So what’s Curious Play about? Hold that thought: What is it not about? It has everything: The story follows Miaka who gets trapped into a novel with her best friend and she is transported to Ancient China, while Yui later, faces more horrors. Miaka becomes the ‘priestess of Suzaku’, where she is entrusted with gathering the seven celestial warriors to summon the deity, Suzaku.
And in the middle, she falls head-over-heels for one of the warriors, Tamahome, unleashing so much melodrama it outshines anything you’ve seen before. Forget Grey’s Anatomy or Gossip Girl—Tamahome’s memory gets erased, he nearly dies, and the endless string of sacrifices, confused realities, will have you gasping (and maybe reaching for a lie-down). Moreover, this is the 90s, so you brace yourself for a lot of stale plot devices.
But that’s Curious Play. It’s bizarre, very annoying at times, I’ll be honest, but it deserve a night-binge with your close friends over pizza. Just start counting every time Miaka is in trouble, or is separated from Tamahome, or finds someone else who is in love with her (there is no end to that list, by the way). That said, some scenes are filled with fiery intensity, that make you watch just one more episode.
Go for it. Get a little dramatic.
