Lakshmy Ramakrishnan releasing teaser of her next film, ‘Ammani’ in UAE on Saturday

Tamil director Lakshmy Ramakrishnan is visiting Dubai this weekend for the teaser launch of her upcoming film Ammani.

Ammani is her third directorial and is the story of an unusual friendship between two women — one an 82-year-old rag picker and the other a 52-year-old government employee.

Subbalakshmi (the octogenarian actress last seen in Gautham Menon’s Vinnaithandi Varuvaayaa) plays the rag picker.

“The rag picker lives alone after the demise of her husband, while the [employee] shoulders the entire responsibility of her family,” said Ramakrishnan, who besides directing, has taken on the role of the employee.

“Theirs is an unlikely friendship and they share something in common,” she added.

Ramakrishnan, who has acted in Malayalam and Tamil films, turned director with the impressive Arohanam in 2012. Her second film was Nerungi Vaa Muthamidathe.

The teaser for Ammani will be launched in the studios of Tamil radio channel 89.4 FM. Ammani is scheduled for a Diwali release.
