Dubai: YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as 'BeerBiceps,' has found himself at the center of a heated controversy following a remark he made on comedian Samay Raina’s show India's Got Latent.

During a recent episode which has been slammed universally, Allahbadia posed an unsettling and inappropriate question to a contestant.

The episode, which featured prominent creators like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija (known as "The Rebel Kid"), quickly garnered backlash after clips went viral online.

According to reports, the controversy escalated when Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanded action. Although he admitted to not having watched the video, Fadnavis condemned the remark as "very vulgar" and assured that those crossing the boundaries of decency would face consequences.

“Everyone has freedom of speech, but this freedom ends when it encroaches upon others’ freedom,” he remarked, promising action if necessary," he told reporters.

Adding to the outrage, two Mumbai-based lawyers have filed complaints against Allahbadia and other participants in the show, alleging that the remarks disrespected women and violated moral standards. The complaints have been lodged with Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phalsankar and the Maharashtra Women's Commission, urging authorities to take swift action.

Journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra also expressed his dismay, criticising the creators for their lack of responsibility.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Misra denounced the normalisation of such crude content.

“Decency is not incentivized in India—platforms and audiences encourage creators to stoop lower for reach and revenue,” Misra stated, adding that the audience’s laughter and applause reflected a troubling normalization of perverse humor.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate echoed these sentiments, calling the comment “perverted”.

“The fact that this sick comment met loud applause must worry us all,” she said.

Social media users also joined the chorus of criticism, with many calling for stricter regulation of content creators.

The episode has ignited broader discussions about freedom of speech and decency in content creation.
