Prince Stefan is raring to get back to work after a long hiatus, and has debunked rumours about his alleged gay marriage in the US.
It has been a while since you had any project, either TV or movie. What have you been up to?
I decided to take a break from show business, because my mother passed away a few months ago. Before that she was hospitalised and I wanted to take care of her myself. At that time, she was in and out of the hospital and I somehow knew it wouldn’t be long. So I wanted to be there for her, and I wanted her to know she was more important than anything else. It was a really sad period in my life, as I am very close to my mother. It still is very painful for me, but I have to move on.
So what are you doing at the moment?
Nothing definite, but I am speaking to a few handlers who will hopefully be able to get me projects. My contract with GMA has already expired so I can work freelance now.
The teaser ads for the relaunch of Starstruck show some alumni from the programme, including past winners and runners up. But you’re not included. How do you feel about that?
I totally get it, whatever their reasons are. I am thankful to GMA for giving me a break, and can’t say anything bad about them. They must have a reason for not including me in the promo campaign; but me being a part of Starstruck will also never change. I was the runner up of the fourth batch, which Aljur Abrenica won.
Is true that you will be changing your screen name?
Yes, that is all part of my plan. Getting a new manager, then some repackaging for my eventual comeback. A few of the people I have had discussions with suggested I change my name, as there is a lot of stigma [attached] to it.
You mean regarding the rumours you had a same-sex marriage in the US?
Yes.
What is the truth about that, anyway?
Absolutely no truth to it. I was just in the US for a vacation and stayed with my relatives. I was hanging out with this guy, Stephan Andrei Anlocotan, who is a friend of my relatives. He was just my tour guide that’s all and with him bringing me around, we would definitely have pictures. That’s how the rumours started, I think. I just didn’t pay attention, because the stories they concocted were just crazy, and I actually felt embarrassed that Stephan, who was just being nice, had to be dragged into it.
