Mohammad Assaf is going worldwide.

The Gazan singer — who won pan-Arab music contest Arab Idol last year — has been voted Best Middle East Act at the 2014 MTV EMA.

He beat Jana, Cairokee, Sa’ad Lamjarred and Omar Bassad in the online public vote to find the top artist in the region.

That means you have until October 29 to vote for him in the Africa, India, Middle East nominees category, where he is up against Indian rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh and South Africa’s Sauti Sol. Ten artists from the regional votes will be selected to go to the final round at the MTV EMAs taking place in the Scottish city of Glasgow, on November 9.

Voting opens to the public at 2pm UAE today, until 11.59pm CET on October 29. The final list of 10 Worldwide Act nominees will be revealed on mtvema.com on October 30.

The MTV EMAs are the music channel’s biggest awards event outside the US, and this year will be hosted by Nicki Minaj, with performances from Calvin Harris, Charli XCX, Kiesza, Royal Blood, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran and Minaj. Ozzy Osbourne is getting the Global Icon Award.

Winners are voted for by the public at mtvema.com; voting closes on November 8.

The show will be aired on MTV in the UAE at 1am November 10.
