The owner of a Massachusetts music store says a rhinestone-covered grand piano once owned by Liberace wasn’t damaged when part of the roof collapsed under the weight of snow.

Rob Norris said after an inspection Tuesday that the piano wasn’t located in the section where the roof caved in. The Liberace piano has 88,888 rhinestones and has been appraised for $500,000 (Dh1.8 million).

Rockland Fire Chief Scott Duffey says a roughly 30-metre-by-30-metre section of the pitched roof fell into the showroom on Tuesday morning at the Piano Mill. No one was inside. Duffey said more sections fell later.

Duffey says about a dozen other pianos had extensive damage.

Rockland received 73cm of snow Monday.
