Dubai: Eighty per cent of Quran memorisers in Sudan come from the western troubled region of the country, Darfur.
Badr Al Deen Mohammad, Vice-Consul General of the Consulate General of the Republic of Sudan in Dubai, said although Darfur is in crisis, the people are always keen to memorise the Quran.
The official is a frequent visitor of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award and highly praised the initiative of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for his devotion to serve the "book of Allah and Islam", he said during an interview at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
'Nurturing talents'
To him this is in line with the efforts of Dubai Cares.
Dubai is well-known for its numerous efforts to nourish the talents of the youth by constantly recognising their capabilities and by rewarding them, he said while emphasising the importance of maintaining such competitions.
He was present that day to listen to the recitation of the participant from Sudan.
