Abu Dhabi: A delegation from the Shaikh Zayed Book Award was received by Ake Alteus, Deputy Director of the Nobel Foundation, on Monday in Stockholm, Sweden.
The delegation spoke of the objectives of the Shaikh Zayed Book Award and its role in enriching the Arab cultural the World.
"It has been our pleasure to meet with one of the most prestigious award team's worldwide. This meeting gave us a generous chance to communicate and exchange expertise," said Rashid Al Oraimi, Secretary General of the Shaikh Zayed Book Award, in a press statement.
Alteus briefed the delegation about the history of the Nobel Prize and the scientific basis on which the judging process is based.
The Swedish Academy, represented by the permanent secretary Horace Engdahl and member of the Nobel Committee for Literature, Per Wustberg, explained the nomination process and briefed the delegation on the different criterion used for each of the six Nobel prizes: Chemistry, Medicine, Physics, Literature, Peace and Economics.
The Shaikh Zayed Book Award is an independent award established in October 2006, in memory of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi for over 30 years.
Arab culture
The award is designed to foster scholarship and creativity, creating an environment to celebrate achievements in Arab culture and to showcase contributions to international literature and the arts.
The Award recognises cultural achievement across one of the most broad and diverse categories of any cultural award internationally.
